Byron Bay is about 165 km south of Brisbane Airport — roughly two and a half hours down the M1 and across the NSW border. There's no simple public route, so a door-to-door transfer is the relaxed way to arrive with your bags, boards and beach plans intact.

Byron has no airport of its own and limited public transport, so it comes down to comfort and time:

Scheduled coaches run from Brisbane to Byron. Cheaper solo, but fixed timetables, luggage limits and a walk from the drop-off with your bags.

The drive: what to expect
From the airport your driver takes the Gateway Motorway and heads south on the M1 Pacific Motorway, through the Gold Coast and across the NSW border to Byron. It's a straightforward, mostly-motorway run of around two and a half hours, dropping you at your Byron hotel, retreat or address.
The M1 through the Gold Coast and the border can bank up on Friday evenings, Sunday afternoons and during NSW/QLD school holidays (which don't always line up). We plan around it — and your fixed fare never changes with the traffic.
