Newcastle Airport (NTL) is the closest airport to the Hunter Valley wine region by a significant margin. The drive from Williamtown to Pokolbin takes about 45 minutes — versus 2.5 hours from Sydney Airport if you're driving yourself through Sydney traffic.
For wine weekends, corporate winery events, and vineyard stays, flying into Newcastle and booking a private transfer is frequently the faster, more relaxed option. We pick you up at arrivals, load the bags, and have you at your cellar door or lodge before the first pouring.

Single civilian terminal — RAAF Williamtown
Newcastle Airport is located at Williamtown, sharing the site with RAAF Base Williamtown — one of Australia's primary fighter aircraft bases. The civilian terminal is modern and compact, approximately 25 km north of Newcastle CBD.
The terminal is straightforward to navigate. After collecting your luggage, exit through the glass doors into the arrivals pickup area where your driver waits with a name board. There is no train service to Newcastle Airport.
Note that Williamtown is an active RAAF base — the airport's proximity to the base means some noise from military aircraft operations, particularly on weekdays. Flight schedules are not affected.
