🌊
Mindil Beach

Darwin's most famous beach — home to the legendary Mindil Beach Sunset Market (Thursday and Sunday evenings April to October). The beach faces west over the Timor Sea, and the sunsets are genuinely spectacular. Just 5 km from the airport.

From $65 · ~18 min · 15 km west

Seasonal travel planning

Darwin has two seasons.
Both are magnificent.

May — October
The Dry Season ☀️

Darwin's peak tourist season. Warm, dry, and sunny with low humidity. Kakadu is fully accessible — the Jim Jim and Twin Falls gorges are open. Litchfield waterfalls are at their clearest. Mindil Beach Sunset Market is in full swing. This is when the NT is at its most spectacular for visitors, and when we are at our busiest. Pre-booking transfers — especially to Kakadu — is strongly recommended during the dry season.

November — April
The Wet Season 🌩️

Darwin's wet season brings dramatic electrical storms, flooding rains, and lush green landscapes. Parts of Kakadu — including Jim Jim and Twin Falls — may be inaccessible due to flooding. However, Yellow Water Billabong and Ubirr rock art are usually accessible. Waterfalls are at their most powerful. Darwin itself is spectacular during the build-up and wet — if you embrace the drama, it is unforgettable. We operate year-round but always recommend calling ahead for long-distance NT transfers in the wet season.

Domestic & International terminals

Darwin Airport is at Marrara, approximately 13 km northeast of the Darwin CBD. The domestic and international terminals are located in the same precinct, with the international terminal handling direct flights from Singapore, Bali (Denpasar), and Dili (Timor-Leste).

For international arrivals, after clearing customs follow signs to the arrivals hall where your driver waits with a name board. Darwin's international terminal is compact and easy to navigate.

Note that Darwin operates on Australian Central Standard Time (ACST, UTC+9:30) — half an hour behind Sydney and Melbourne when both are on standard time, and 90 minutes behind when the east coast observes daylight saving (which the NT does not observe).

Organised a Kakadu transfer as part of a NT tour. Driver was knowledgeable about the region and made excellent time on the Arnhem Highway. At Jabiru by sunset. Absolutely worth every cent.
