International & Domestic terminals

Auckland Airport has two terminals — International and Domestic — connected by a free inter-terminal shuttle bus (approximately 10 minutes) or a covered walkway. The International Terminal handles long-haul flights from Australia, Asia, the Americas, and the Pacific. The Domestic Terminal handles Air New Zealand and Jetstar flights within New Zealand.

After clearing customs and biosecurity in the International Terminal, exit through the sliding doors into the arrivals hall where your driver waits with a name board. New Zealand biosecurity can add 20–40 minutes to processing time, particularly for passengers arriving with food items from Australia — allow for this when estimating your arrival time.

Note that New Zealand operates on New Zealand Standard Time (NZST, UTC+12) or NZDT (UTC+13) in summer. This is 2–3 hours ahead of Australian Eastern time, depending on daylight saving.

Frequently asked questions

Auckland Airport
transfer FAQs.

Auckland Airport at Māngere is approximately 21 km south of the Auckland CBD. The drive takes about 25 minutes in normal traffic, or 35–45 minutes during peak hour (generally 7:30–9:00am and 4:30–6:30pm on weekdays). The Southern Motorway is the primary route, and traffic on the Southwestern Motorway interchange can be congested during busy periods.
Yes. Hamilton CBD is approximately 130 km south of Auckland Airport (~90 minutes via the Southern Motorway and State Highway 1 through Pokeno and Mercer). Transfers from NZ$189. We also service Hamilton Airport, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, and surrounding Waikato towns.
Yes. Rotorua is approximately 235 km from Auckland Airport (~2.5 hours via SH1 south to Hamilton and then SH30 east). Transfers from NZ$279. We also service Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Whakatāne, and the broader Bay of Plenty region. Pre-booking is required for Rotorua and beyond.
Yes. Takapuna, Devonport, Milford, and the broader North Shore are approximately 30 km from the airport (~35 minutes via the Southern Motorway, CBD bypass, and Harbour Bridge). Fares from NZ$89. We also service Albany, Browns Bay, Orewa, and Silverdale further north.
New Zealand has strict biosecurity requirements — one of the strictest in the world. For international arrivals, allow 30–60 minutes for biosecurity and customs processing in addition to your actual landing time. Passengers arriving with fresh food, plant material, or undeclared items can face additional processing. We provide 90 minutes of complimentary wait time from your scheduled landing, and monitor flights in real-time for delays.
Yes — the City Rail Link now connects Auckland Airport to the CBD via the Puhinui station interchange on the Māngere line. Journey time is approximately 45–55 minutes with the train change. For travellers with heavy luggage, multiple bags, or travelling in a group, a private transfer remains significantly more convenient and often faster door-to-door.
